Mock Draft Round 3

RND 1
1
Houston Texans
Jadeveon Clowney (Photo by Danny Parker)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 266
Hometown: Rock Hill, S.C.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 1
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Bill O'Brien
2013 Record: 2-14

ANALYSIS: I firmly believe Clowney will be the first player taken and will be the Texans pick if they hold on to the spot. I think that there is a strong possibility they trade down. Clowney is the best prospect in this draft but not the ideal fit for their defense. Outside linebacker Khalil Mack is the better fit for Houston . More importantly, Houston needs a quarterback. With no trades in this mock, it has to be Clowney.

RND 1
2
St. Louis Rams
OT Jake Matthews
Height: 6-5
Weight: 308
Hometown: Missouri City, Texas
College: Texas A&M
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 6
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Jeff Fisher
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: Like the Texans, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Rams trade out of this spot. They certainly will have offers but will they be enticing enough and how far back would they have to move? If they stand pat St. Louis will have the pick of the litter at offensive tackle between Jake Matthews, Greg Robinson, and Taylor Lewan. I mocked Matthews three straight times to the Rams believing he's more of the sure thing even though I firmly believe Robinson has superior upside. Sammy Watkins could also be in play here as well as Khalil Mack. But the pick is Matthews.

RND 1
3
Jacksonville Jaguars
OLB Khalil Mack
Player: Khalil Mack
Height: 6-3
Weight: 251
Hometown: Fort Pierce, Fla.
College: Buffalo
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 2
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Gus Bradley
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: The Jaguars desperately need a quarterback. They could also use wide receiver Sammy Watkins and I am sure they would love to have offensive tackle Greg Robinson. I believe they will wait on their quarterback. There is just too much depth at receiver in this draft. I don't see them passing on outside linebacker Khalil Mack, who's ideal for their defense in Jacksonville.

RND 1
4
Cleveland Browns
Greg Robinson
Height: 6-5
Weight: 332
Hometown: Thibodaux, La.
College: Auburn
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 3
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: The Browns could land Sammy Watkins here, but once again, this draft is so deep at wide receiver. Cleveland could also go quarterback but I think they address that position with their second or even third pick. Greg Robinson is still on the board and the Browns pick this offensive tackle from Auburn.

RND 1
5
Oakland Raiders
WR Sammy Watkins
Height: 6-1
Weight: 211
Hometown: Fort Myers, Fla.
College: Clemson
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 4
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Dennis Allen
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: I could certainly see Oakland trading out of this spot like they did one year ago. They are rebuilding their roster and want more picks. But if the stay in the five hole and if things did fall this way they can't pass on Sammy Watkins. The Raiders get the most explosive player in the draft.

RND 1
6
Atlanta Falcons
Player: Taylor Lewan
Height: 6-7
Weight: 309
Hometown: Scottsdale, Ariz.
College: Michigan
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 10
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Mike Smith
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: The Falcons have long been rumored as one of the teams that want to move up to possibly take Clowney. But what about Atlanta moving the other way, trading back to target Eric Ebron? Much depends on what happens at the top of the draft. Pay close attention to Atlanta on Thursday night. If they don't move they go offensive tackle. Taylor Lewan is the pick here. I think defensive tackle Aaron Donald could also be in play with the Falcons.

RND 1
7
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
WR Mike Evans
Player: Mike Evans
Height: 6-5
Weight: 231
Hometown: Galveston, Texas
College: Texas A&M
Class: 2014 SO
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 14
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Lovie Smith
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: Certainly the Bucs would love to add a pass rusher (Clowney or Mack) or Sammy Watkins but they don't have much ammo to move up. I believe the Bucs will be on the move and trade back. They have too many holes on their roster and only six picks in this draft. Wide receiver is a screaming need and they need a quarterback for the future. The wildcard name to watch here is defensive tackle Aaron Donald. But if they stick to this spot Tampa Bay goes wide receiver Mike Evans.

RND 1
8
Minnesota Vikings
UCF QB Blake Bortles
Height: 6-5
Weight: 232
Hometown: Oviedo, Fla.
College: UCF
Class: 2014 SR
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 8
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike Zimmer
2013 Record: 5-10

ANALYSIS: Minnesota is another team that could very well move back, as there will be a handful of teams (Dallas, Chicago, and New York Giants) that may want to move up to make sure they get defensive tackle Aaron Donald. If they made such a trade, they could then go best available or draft their quarterback. If they stick here, it's Donald or quarterback Blake Bortles. I am picking the signal caller from UCF.

RND 1
9
Buffalo Bills
Player: Zack Martin
Height: 6-4
Weight: 308
Hometown: Indianapolis, Ind.
College: Notre Dame
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 11
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Doug Marrone
2013 Record: 6-10

ANALYSIS: The Bills may use last year's model and trade back a few spots. It wouldn't surprise me at all. But if they stick, I look for Buffalo to draft Zack Martin from Notre Dame. He's a versatile talent that can play both tackle positions as well as guard. It's a nice safe pick for that franchise.

RND 1
10
Detroit Lions
Height: 6-0
Weight: 202
Hometown: Huntsville, Texas
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 21
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Jim Caldwell
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: The Lions will think long and hard if defensive tackle Aaron Donald is still on the board. They could also possibly make a move to trade up for one of the two top ten wide receivers. But if they stay here, Detroit has their pick of cornerbacks. The top two are Darqueze Dennard and Justin Gilbert. They go with the more athletic Gilbert.

RND 1
11
Tennessee Titans
Player: Anthony Barr
Height: 6-5
Weight: 255
Hometown: Los Angeles, Calif.
College: UCLA
Class: 2014 SR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 7
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Ken Whisenhunt
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: It's cornerback Justin Gilbert or outside linebacker Anthony Barr for the Titans. Because they are switching to a 3-4 and need an outside rusher I am going with the former Bruin.

RND 1
12
New York Giants
Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports
Player: Aaron Donald
Height: 6-1
Weight: 285
Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pa.
College: Pittsburgh
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 5
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Tom Coughlin
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: There's no way Aaron Donald slides to No. 12 on Thursday night. I have him as the No. 5 overall player in this draft. Someone will trade up into the top ten to grab him. But if he's there at this spot, the Giants take him to bolster their defensive front.

RND 1
13
St. Louis Rams
Height: 6-0
Weight: 207
Hometown: Kerrville, Texas
College: Texas A&M
Class: 2014 SO
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 9
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Jeff Fisher
2013 Record: 7-9

ANALYSIS: The Rams play it safe with their first pick in offensive tackle Jake Matthews. Here, they play their wildcard and draft quarterback Johnny Manziel. If you didn't think the NFC West was interesting enough…

RND 1
14
Chicago Bears
Height: 6-1
Weight: 208
Hometown: Orlando, Fla.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: S
Rating:
Overall Rank: 19
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Marc Trestman
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: Defensive back and middle linebacker C.J. Mosley are in play here because Donald is off the board. I could certainly see the Bears making a play into the top ten to get Donald but there are no trades in this mock. Chicago bolsters their secondary by picking HaHa Clinton-Dix with the No. 14 pick.

RND 1
15
Pittsburgh Steelers
Darqueze Dennard
Height: 5-11
Weight: 199
Hometown: Jeffersonville, Ga.
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 18
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Mike Tomlin
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: I think the Steelers will be very tempted here to draft a wide receiver, especially guys like Odell Beckham, Jr. or Marqise Lee. But they go and get a great fit for their defense in cornerback Darqueze Dennard.

RND 1
16
Dallas Cowboys
DT Timmy Jernigan
Height: 6-2
Weight: 299
Hometown: Lake City, Fla.
College: Florida State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 13
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: Jason Garrett
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: I think Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will do everything possible to trade up to try and get Aaron Donald but they will be playing that trade game against a few teams for this defensive tackle. If they don't move and stay at No. 16 they could go in a number of directions. I have been mocking defensive tackle Tim Jernigan to Dallas and I am sticking with it because this team needs help up front.

RND 1
17
Baltimore Ravens
Calvin Pryor
Player: Calvin Pryor
Height: 5-11
Weight: 207
Hometown: Port Saint Joe, Fla.
College: Louisville
Class: 2014 SR
Position: S
Rating:
Overall Rank: 22
Pos Rank: 2

Head Coach: John Harbaugh
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: The Ravens could be another team that moves back in the draft. That wouldn't surprise me at all. If they hold this spot, a few players like middle linebacker C.J. Mosley, tight end Eric Ebron and safety Calvin Pryor could all be in play. Safety is a huge need so the pick here is the hard hitting Pryor.

RND 1
18
New York Jets
TE Eric Ebron
Player: Eric Ebron
Height: 6-4
Weight: 250
Hometown: Greensboro, N.C.
Class: 2014 JR
Position: TE
Rating:
Overall Rank: 20
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Rex Ryan
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: In my last few mock drafts I have had the Jets picking tight end Eric Ebron. That doesn't change. He will be a nice new weapon for the New York offense. Ebron is clearly the best tight end in this draft.

RND 1
19
Miami Dolphins
OT Cyrus Kouandjio
Height: 6-7
Weight: 322
Hometown: Hyattsville, Md.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 31
Pos Rank: 5

Head Coach: Joe Philbin
2013 Record: 8-8

ANALYSIS: This spot may be a tad high to draft a guy like Cyrus Kouandijo from Alabama but Miami's need at offensive tackle is just too great. The Dolphins could be another team that looks long and hard about moving up or moving back, depending on how things really shake out in front of them.

RND 1
20
Arizona Cardinals
OLB C.J Mosley
Height: 6-2
Weight: 234
Hometown: Theodore, Ala.
College: Alabama
Class: 2014 SR
Position: MLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 15
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: Bruce Arians
2013 Record: 10-6

ANALYSIS: The Cardinals need linebacker help and have a chance at either Ryan Shazier or C.J. Mosley. Here, they draft Mosley. People question his durability but this kid can flat out play.

RND 1
21
Green Bay Packers
Player: Ryan Shazier
Height: 6-1
Weight: 237
Hometown: Plantation, Fla.
College: Ohio State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OLB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 17
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Mike McCarthy
2013 Record: 8-7

ANALYSIS: The Packers draft the speedy and athletic Ryan Shazier from Ohio State. This kid can make plays all over the field and is terrific in space.

RND 1
22
Philadelphia Eagles
CB Roby Bradley
Player: Bradley Roby
Height: 5-11
Weight: 194
Hometown: Suwanee, Ga.
College: Ohio State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 32
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Chip Kelly
2013 Record: 10-6

ANALYSIS: The Eagles could certainly go wide receiver here but they have some big secondary needs. Cornerback Bradley Roby is the pick here and will give the Philadelphia defensive backfield a huge boost.

RND 1
23
Kansas City Chiefs
Player: Marqise Lee
Height: 6-0
Weight: 192
Hometown: Gardena, Calif.
College: USC
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 16
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Andy Reid
2013 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: Kansas City needs help at wide receiver and they could go in a number of different directions here between guys like Odell Beckham, Jr,. Brandin Cooks, Marqise Lee, etc. I think Andy Reid and the Chiefs go with the most polished of the bunch in Lee.

RND 1
24
Cincinnati Bengals
Height: 5-9
Weight: 189
Hometown: Santa Rosa, Calif.
College: TCU
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 33
Pos Rank: 5

Head Coach: Marvin Lewis
2013 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: The Bengals are one of a handful of teams in this portion of the draft that will turn to the secondary. Cornerback Jason Verrett is a bit undersized but this kid has speed to burn and terrific ball skills. He's the pick for Marvin Lewis and Cincinnati.

RND 1
25
San Diego Chargers
Player: Louis Nix
Height: 6-2
Weight: 331
Hometown: Jacksonville, Fla.
College: Notre Dame
Class: 2014 JR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 34
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Mike McCoy
2013 Record: 9-7

ANALYSIS: Cornerback could very well be the play here for San Diego. So to could be wide receiver with a guy like Brandin Cooks. But they could also use an anchor in the middle of their defensive front. Nose guard Louis Nix is the call here.

RND 1
26
Cleveland Browns
Player: Derek Carr
Height: 6-2
Weight: 214
Hometown: Bakersfield, Calif.
College: Fresno State
Class: 2014 SR
Position: QB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 24
Pos Rank: 4

Head Coach: Mike Pettine
2013 Record: 4-12

ANALYSIS: Cleveland can't afford to wait on a quarterback. This is the spot where they take Derek Carr from Fresno State. In reality, he could be off the board as teams will try and trade into the round ahead of the Browns here. But in this mock it's Carr to the Browns.

RND 1
27
New Orleans Saints
Height: 5-10
Weight: 189
Hometown: Stockton, Calif.
College: Oregon State
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 26
Pos Rank: 5

Head Coach: Sean Payton
2013 Record: 11-5

ANALYSIS: The Saints could use another big play weapon for their offense and quarterback Drew Brees. Can you imagine the speedy Brandin Cooks in that scheme? He's the pick here and will be a bolt of lightning in the SuperDome.

RND 1
28
Carolina Panthers
WR Odell Beckham
Height: 5-11
Weight: 198
Hometown: New Orleans, La.
College: LSU
Class: 2014 JR
Position: WR
Rating:
Overall Rank: 28
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Ron Rivera
2013 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: Carolina is desperate at offensive tackle and wide receiver. This spot is too high for Morgan Moses. Odell Beckham, Jr. and Brandin Cooks are still on the board. Here, they go with Beckham, Jr.

RND 1
29
New England Patriots
DT Ra'Shede Hageman
Height: 6-6
Weight: 310
Hometown: Minneapolis, Minn.
College: Minnesota
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 25
Pos Rank: 3

Head Coach: Bill Belichick
2013 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: The Patriots will improve their defensive front by adding the very big and very athletic Ra'Shede Hageman from Minnesota. Tight end could also be an option or even trading down.

RND 1
30
San Francisco 49ers
Player: Kyle Fuller
Height: 6-0
Weight: 190
Hometown: Baltimore, Md.
College: Virginia Tech
Class: 2014 SR
Position: CB
Rating:
Overall Rank: 35
Pos Rank: 6

Head Coach: Jim Harbaugh
2013 Record: 12-4

ANALYSIS: The 49ers are certainly a team loaded with ammo to move up in the draft for whoever they covet. If they hold this position they could go wide receiver here or cornerback. Kyle Fuller is the pick here. San Francisco could use this physical cornerback in their secondary.

RND 1
31
Denver Broncos
OG Xavier Su'a-Filo
Height: 6-4
Weight: 307
Hometown: Provo, Utah
College: UCLA
Class: 2014 JR
Position: OG
Rating:
Overall Rank: 36
Pos Rank: 1

Head Coach: John Fox
2013 Record: 13-3

ANALYSIS: Denver made some serious moves on their defense this off-season. Here, they address the offensive front and draft the top offensive guard in this draft in Xavier Su'a Filo to help protect quarterback Peyton Manning. He's a good fit in their offensive scheme as well.

RND 1
32
Seattle Seahawks
Height: 6-2
Weight: 288
Hometown: Staten Island, N.Y.
College: Florida
Class: 2014 SR
Position: DT
Rating:
Overall Rank: 40
Pos Rank: 5

Head Coach: Pete Carroll
2013 Record: 13-3

ANALYSIS: Seattle is always a wildcard when it comes to the draft and they close out the first round by selecting defensive tackle Dominique Easley. He would have easily been a top ten selection had in not been for another knee injury in the middle of this past season.
