Hoover excited for first job

Former Michigan State defensive tackle signs with Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent.

Tyler Hoover's first job is going to be a little bit different than most.

When the former Michigan State defensive tackle signed a deal with the Indianapolis Colts after going undrafted in the NFL Draft, it marked his first employment and he could not be more excited to join the professional ranks.

"It is a great relief and a whole new excitement," he said. "This is a dream come true to be able to be in this position. I'm now eager to earn a jersey for the team.

"Nothing was ever handed to me at MSU, so I am ready to work for my position."

The 6-foot-7 Hoover said toward the end of Saturday's late rounds, he let the Colts known his interest rested with them.

"I wanted to make sure the Colts knew I was very interested, so I told them early in the seventh round I would be honored to be Colt if I were to be a free agent," he said.

So quickly after the draft concluded, he made it official and signed with Indianapolis. He credited the Colts coaching staff for its honesty and approach with him for making the difference.

"They told me they did not have a draft pick for me, but would love to me as a free agent," Hoover said. "I also got to meet and talk to the defensive line coach at the MSU pro day."

Hoover will head to Indianapolis on Sunday before starting mini-camp later this week. Once he gets the chance to meet Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, he will have a message for the Stanford grad after MSU bested the Cardinal 24-20 in the Rose Bowl.

"I will throw in a ‘Go Green,'" he said.
