With the starters expected to see their most significant action of the preseason tonight, here are five things we want to learn about the players and team.
1)The Titans offense which has looked great in camp and had early success last week needs to continue that trend against a Falcons defense that gave up 32 points last week in Houston. Jake Locker needs to continue to show his improved accuracy and stay healthy.
2)The first team defense has given up opening drive scores in both preseason games, and neither Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees were under center for their teams. Matt Ryan and the Falcons have struggled to score points (23 in two games)and want to see that trend change. There are questions about Julio Jones playing, but regardless the Titans defense needs to have a fast start and get off the field without giving up points on their first defensive series.
3)Justin Hunter must show up. Consistency is the question with Hunter, as his physical ability is without question. Following up last weeks 4 reception, 111 yard 2 touchdown performance is a key tonight for Hunter who showed in the joint practice with the Falcons that he can beat them over the top. However I expect the Falcons to have some game planning in place and expect Hunter to be one of the targets they want to stop.
4)Bishop Sankey needs to hold on to the football. He has not been the only Titans player who has had moments in camp of loosing the football, but for a player who was not considered a fumbler in college, he has struggled in camp at times. He has all the tools necessary and the Titans would like to see him step up tonight and earn more playing time moving forward.
5)Linebacker Zach Brown needs a good showing against the Falcons. With Jacquizz Rodgers, Steven Jackson and Devonte Freeman as threats out of the backfield, Brown could find himself in some one-on-one situations in coverage and he must show that he understands Ray Horton's defense and can be counted on to to play his assignments properly. This will be his most extended playing time and he needs to make the most of it, but then so does every single player on the roster.
Entering their third preseason game, the Titans have some things they want to see tonight.
