Turner is a restricted free agent that would require the Titans to compensate the Chargers with their first and third should the Titans and Turner reach an agreement. Turner a three year veteran was originally drafted in the fifth round by the Chargers in the 2004 draft.
While playing as a backup to LaDainian Tomlinson last season, Turner rushed for 502 yards on 80 attempts and averaged 6.3 yards per carry. Most experts believe that Turner is capable of being a lead back in the league that could rush well over 1,00 yards in a season. He has only had one start during his career, so he is a very healthy three year veteran of the league.
The Chargers made him a very difficult player to sign because of the high tender offer they made him, but despite that he has had at least four teams interested in his services. With the price tag being so high it is believed that someone will try to swing a trade deal to the Chargers for Turner. The Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets have all shown an interest in him.
“I prepare myself as a starter each week,” Turner said. “I go out there with a whatever-it-takes attitude. I have the speed to get outside and turn the corner and can run people over, too. Whatever it takes.”
The Titans also have a meeting set for Wednesday with former Patriots running back Corey Dillon to see how he would mesh with the team. Michael Turner might be an excellent fit for the Titans, but his price tag may to be large for the management to make work.
