Mahelona is going into his second year in the league hoping that he can start to really contribute this season after playing in 10 games last year and earning one start in his rookie year. The 6'-0" 311 lbs defensive tackle lacks the height of most prototypical defensive tackles in the league, but he does possess the strength, weight and run stopping ability that the Titans deseperately need.
Mahelona spoke on his first year experience " It was a learning experience for me and I feel alot more comfortable and more so because it's the NFL. I just got to take one day at a time, I know that is a cliche but it is the truth."
With the departure of Robaire Smith from the defensive tackle ranks, a starting spot will be available for likely either Mahelona or Rien Long who is returning from injury. Mahelona will have every opportunity to step up and play this fall and help shore of the position.
The staff will be looking for Mahelona to continue to improve upon his 21 tackles and 1 sack that he registered last season. His excellent work ethic and strength should pay dividends for the staff this fall after selecting him in the fifth round in last years draft.
