The Tennessee Titans waived the following players to reach the 53-player roster limit: S Lamont Thompson, WR Courtney Roby, QB Tim Rattay, RB Quinton Ganther, LB Spencer Toone, CB Ryan Smith, OL Justin Geisinger, WR Joel Filani, RB Dontrell Moore, OL Isaac Snell, T Mike Otto, LB Terna Nande, LB Colin Allred, TE Cooper Wallace, DE Josh Savage, DE Jason Hall, TE Jamie Petrowski, T Seth Wand, S Bryan Scott and DT Lauvale Sape (injured).
The Titans also placed WR David Givens on the Reserve/PUP (physically unable to perform) list, which restricts his availability until after week six of the season. Additionally, DT Rien Long was placed on injured reserve.
Statement from Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher:
“Because of how the roster has improved, the process was a challenge, and the last three or four spots were really difficult considering we let a number of veterans go. These decisions were a result of the depth of our roster and the production and potential of some of the younger players on the team. The numbers at some of the positional groups didn’t allow us the luxury of keeping three quarterbacks, but that shouldn’t be a reflection of Tim (Rattay) and his ability to contribute to a team. I expect to see a number of these players end up with other teams and have significant roles and I hope the door remains open for some of them to return to our roster if the opportunity presents itself.”
Statement from Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt:
“Getting down to 53 is a hard and emotional procedure. This year it was particularly difficult at some position groups, but I was pleased with how we worked through the process. We will continue to look over our roster and the players that become available today and evaluate if we can improve our roster over the next couple of days.”
