Bucs Gradebook

Quarterback: B+. While he didn't lead a great time-chewing drive, he hit Joey Galloway for a deep TD and ran a great two-minute drill to set up the winning field goal. Plus, no picks.

Running backs: D. The Bucs said they weren't expecting to run the ball well? How about poorly? They averaged 2 yards per carry. Even with Graham starting, I expected more than 30 yards total rushing.

Wide receivers: B+. Joey Galloway caught the deep TD Ike Hilliard caught two key passes on the final drive. Even Michael Clayton set up a field goal with a deep catch. This group made nice plays all day.

Offensive line: B-. Give them credit for not allowing a sack. Give them demerits for not getting a push in the run game. That's two weeks in a row. The Bucs must run the ball — now.

Defensive line: B-. Did a solid job up front in run defense. They could have gotten more pressure, even though they got three sacks and nine pressures. They didn't fly around as much as Jon Gruden would have liked — and he made that clear.

Linebackers: A-. Barrett Ruud gave up one long pass in coverage. Otherwise, this group played splendidly. Cato June had 10 tackles. Derrick Brooks forced a fumble.

Secondary: A-. This unit made it hard to find receivers all day. Phillip Buchanon continues his great play, picking off Vince Young deep. The pass defense really allowed just one big play, a 42-yard catch by Justin Gage.

Special teams: B. Matt Bryant kicked the game-winner. Josh Bidwell had a 44.3-yard average. Tanard Jackson made a great open-field tackle on the final kickoff. Mark Jones' punt returns could have been better.

Overall grade: B. It became apparent as the game went on that if Tampa Bay didn't win this game, it could me a season-killer. The fact that they found a way to win, despite the complete lack of a run game, is encouraging. This team makes few mistakes offensively, and the defense continues to play at a level that will help them steal some games down the line. They just need a more consistent pass rush.
