Crumpler Chooses Titans Over Seahawks

The Titans are going to be slow and patient in free agency if they follow a course like they did last season. But the one spot where they jumped out and really made a splash is at tight end.

Free agent tight end Alge Crumpler, released in an Atlanta house-cleaning, met with the Titans in Indianapolis during the NFL Scouting Combine as he looked to narrow his list of teams. He visited with the Titans last week, but left without signing and also visited with Tampa Bay and Seattle.

After leaving the Seahawks, he mulled his opportunities and decided the Titans would be the best fit.

A two-way tight end is a major need for Tennessee, which asked Bo Scaife and Ben Hartsock (who signed with Atlanta) to do too much because Ben Troupe never panned out.

Provided his knee is healthy, Crumpler could be a big aid to the running game as serve as a safety valve for quarterback Vince Young.

"He's one of the better players over the last few years at his position, he's a complete tight end, he blocks, he's a receiving tight end, he does everything," Titans coach Jeff Fisher said last week.

The Seahawks could go with an option like Troupe or veteran Bubba Franks, or they could wait and see what shakes out in the draft. The 2008 tight end class is solid, but the Seahawks also have needs at running back and offensive line. Recommended Stories
