The Titans have an obvious need at wide receiver. They have shown in the past that they are reluctant to spend a first round pick on a receiver, but if they were ever going to do it this would be the year. The Titans resigned Justin Gage in the offseason and added Justin McCareins, but they still do not have that number one option to add explosion to the offense. It is questionable if this draft has an explosive receiver. Malcolm Kelly was widely regarded as the number one guy, but after a bad pro day workout where he blamed the university for his bad numbers his stock is falling. Devin Thomas has become the trendy pick at receiver, but he only put up good numbers for one year in college and has been pegged as a bad route runner. Limas Sweed has all the physical tools to be a prolific NFL receiver, but he has not proven that he is completely healed from a wrist injury that hampered him at the end of the season. DeSean Jackson has the big play potential the Titans desperately need, but he is undersized and his speed may not be enough to set him apart at this level.
Even though the Titans’ biggest need is receiver, they might be better served addressing another need in the first round and picking up a receiver in the second round where they could be someone of great value like an Earl Bennett. Then again, it would be very tough to pass on guy like Jackson because he can change the game on offense and on special teams.
